Baltimore County (WBFF) – Students throughout Maryland are now safer in school. Following a Project Baltimore investigation, Governor Larry Hogan has signed a new law making Maryland the first state in the country to ban registered sex offenders from being students inside public schools.

The new law bans convicted sex offenders from attending Maryland public schools, while setting up alternative means to educate them outside the classroom. Previously, sex offenders could receive special permission by school administrators to enroll. Now, this new law includes a penalty of up to five years in jail and a $5,000 fine if someone knowingly allows a sex offender on school property.

I’m telling you, this new administration has a full on assault on people on the registry. Nothing but bad news. It is quit and unspoken because I thnk there would start to be backlash, but it is becoming very apparent.
The very first sentence of their article is a lie. Good start.
This is yet another do-nothing, feel-good “law” that will do nothing but radicalize people and grow hate. And only targeted at crimes involving SSSSEEEEEXXXX!!!! Of course.
I guess before this new “law” that Maryland had no way at all of keeping disruptive or dangerous students out of public schools. I feel bad that if they have a student that continues to beat up other students that they can’t keep that student away. Oh well, at least it’s not sex. Violence is all good.
This “law” won’t change the risk level for anyone. No one will notice a difference. It will make people more dangerous.
How is a 21 yr old getting to be educated in a high school to begin with? Wasn’t there room in the GED class? Someone was not thinking.

Oh yay!!!! Schools are now safe. No more shootings. No more playground bullying. No more fights. I’m so glad Maryland has done something that makes all their public schools safe.
Schools are gonna start doing background checks on everybody even their students but what if two 14 year old students are cought sexting inappropriate messages and images to each outher does this mean they both can nolonger attend school and must be homestead by their parents.
5 years in jail for knowing letting a sex offender on campus WTF so if a sex offenders child is hurt or really sick they have to call the school to get permission before they can pick them up.
Or maybe what they should do is when a sex offenders child is hurt or sick they should bring the child out on a stretcher and place the him/her across the street off campus until they’re parents arrive that will keep the kids safe

I remember the original story and was wondering why a 21-year-old was in high school in the first place. IMHO, that should have kept him out more than his registry status. Every state had adult education and GED programs that he should have been referred to.
I’m curious as to what exactly the “other means” to educate registrants are. Considering the zeal to register teenagers for sexting, it’ll become pretty significant.

This only applies to convicted sex offenders and not potential sex offenders, which includes every student who has not yet been convicted.
Does this mean those afflicted do not have to pay public school tax?
Nothing like being ostracized at a young age. That should help push the youth suicide rate up in Maryland.
It’s already illegal for a Hit List member to be on school property in Maryland. My question would be what’s a 21 year old doing at a high school. Maybe work on education or mental health instead of solutions to problems appeasing the public. What will happen when more youth are caught up and put on the list? Follow the scientific and evidence our re/offense rates are low; but that doesn’t suit the agenda does it Governor Hogan?
How does the right to a free public education (which started with Brown v. Board of Education) play into this?
